WE CONDUCT RETREATS AND WORKSHOPS FOR—
LOCAL, STATE, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
Example 2.5 Day Overview Schedule for Law Firms:©
1/2 Day Afternoon/Evening:
6:00 p.m. Afternoon Arrival - Settle in at our comfortable, inspiring accommodations and workshop location.
7:00 p.m. Cocktails and Customization - We meet at the outdoor deck where we open up to each other in a completely unique forum based on the jurisprudence of Lon Fuller and the actions of Zainab Salbi, reminding us of a specific wisdom embedded in our commitment to law and this firm. We then dine with an objective. A surprising Ted Talk clip and roundtable engagement follow, then a group-led walkthrough of our honed, input-based agenda. We wrap up the evening with renowned bluegrass & roots musicians who will offer a short, private concert and conversation about the genre and its particular ethic, which we tie back to a general wisdom offered up at this retreat. We discuss how what we've experienced applies to decision-making and teamwork.
The evening sets up the retreat, combining an intelligent why-we-love-law reminder with truth-speaking fun, and review of the agenda and interactive guidelines for the next two days. Participants will know that this unique retreat elevates the conversation, respects their talents, asks them to dig deep in a safe environment, and sets achievable objectives germane to the firm’s goals.
Full Day One:
7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. Mindset - Yoga session or bike ride designed specifically to encourage a contemplative mindset. (Bike ride participants begin at 6:45 a.m.)
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. A Practice-based Breakfast - With the firm’s practice-based trivia and agenda fun.
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Session 1: The Hubble View - An engaged, group deep-dive of the firm’s vision, master plan, competitive analyses, and/or new process launch with fearless Q&A. Facilitator is prepared to ask hard questions regarding the plan and guide discussion constructively.
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Collaborative Cooking Lesson with Organic Feast - General wisdom for sincere and effective collaboration and productivity that builds on our bluegrass-inspired general wisdom from the opening evening.
2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Session 2: Ruins - We’re transported to old Potomac Street in Harpers Ferry where we embark on a special hike along the river from the Elk’s Run to The Point in Harpers Ferry. While we see overgrown archaeological sites and consider how thriving places fall into obscurity, we’ll be reviewing specific challenges the firm faces brought to the fore in pre-retreat input. At The Point, we’ll roundtable potential solutions and record our raw findings.
6:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Dining & Refining - We’ll enjoy a hearty, farm-to-table dinner in or near Harpers Ferry, while we refine our solutions further. Before heading back to our accommodations, we’ll stop for the view and a beverage at the Harpers Ferry Brewing Company. From the overlook, we consider several of the morning’s Hubble View conclusions and how our solutions align with our master plan or firm goals.
Full Day Two:
7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. Mindset - Aquatic yoga session (in pool) or morning kayak paddle along the Potomac. (Paddle participants begin at 6:45 a.m.)
8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Recap Breakfast - We review Day One highlights with a fresh, abundant breakfast.
10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Session 3: Realities - This training session gives participants very specific how-to strategies via case studies for acquiring new business opportunities and lays out expectations. We’ll share leads, networking information, conversational approaches, and marketing plans. We’ll role play and produce an implementation map with everyone’s input and equitable tasking.
12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Collaborative Cooking Lesson 2 with Organic Feast - General wisdom for sincere and effective collaboration and productivity that builds on what we considered the previous day.
2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Session 4: A Veil of Ignorance Firm-Style - This session continues the work from Session 3: Realities with a creative twist. Using jurisprudential giant John Rawls’ seminal thought experiment on building fairness and using paint in studio with a celebrated artist and WV Professor of the Year (2015), we’ll discover empathy for our colleagues and clients while creating a physical reminder of our commitment to each other and the firm. We’ll finalize actionable, consensus solutions to firm challenges that meet our objectives for the retreat.
6:15 p.m. Departure - A special group farewell.
